Submagic

Submagic allows faster editing of viral short form videos for social media

Overview

Originally a subtitling and captioning app, Submagic now has a range of features that it claims enable users to ‘create viral shorts in seconds with AI.’

The tool is in browser, and focuses on vertical video (1080×1920). While AI powered subtitling is it’s main strength (hence the name), it also has nine other features listed on its website. It’s great for starter creators who want a simple AI captioning tool.

Key features

  • Automatic Caption Generation: Submagic quickly produces accurate captions, freeing creators from the time-consuming task of manual transcription.
  • Keyword Highlighting: The tool intelligently emphasizes important keywords within captions, making content more engaging and easier to follow.
  • Images and B-Roll: Add image and video over edits.
  • Auto-Zoom: Edits can automatically zoom into footage for extra emphasis.
  • Transitions: The built in custom transition feature can jazz up existing edits

Pros

  • Time Efficiency: By automating caption creation, Submagic reduces the time needed for vertical video post-production.
  • Enhanced Engagement: The tool’s smart features foster better viewer interaction through visually appealing and meaningful captions.
  • Accessibility Improvement: Accurate captions cater to a wider audience, including those with hearing impairments, thereby enriching the viewing experience.
  • Template Selection: Users can choose from a variety of trendy designs, ensuring their captions are visually appealing and consistent with their brand.
  • Auto Emojis: The inclusion of relevant emojis enhances captions, making them more relatable and expressive.

Cons

  • Limited Customization: While the tool offers various templates, advanced users may find the customization options inadequate for specific branding needs.
  • Transcription Accuracy: It takes about 15 minutes per video to clean up and set everything up correctly. It’s less accurate than Firecut for transcribing captions but does a good job.
  • In Browser Editor: Because the editor is hosted on a website, you’ll need to upload a video file into it, add features like captions, then process and download. This is not a very efficient system for advanced users.
  • Secondary Features: Beyond the captions, Submagic offers nine other features, but video editors may well have added most of this stylistic editing into a video already.

Who is Submagic for?

Because a lot of effects are overlaid on an existing video file, this tool is best for starter Content Creators and Social Media Managers with responsibility for vertical video.
