Midjourney is one of those AI tools I can’t get away from. Since it was released in July 2022, I’ve been dabbling at varying levels of intensity.

I’m nostalgic for its Discord beginnings, even if it was difficult to access and use. It forced me to learn some of the more difficult aspects of prompting, such as advanced parameters like —ar 16:9 (a command to get images into landscape rather than square).

It also taught me to be super descriptive about returning from AI. It’s not ‘a tomato’, it’s 'an extremely fresh looking tomato with beads of moisture on its smooth skin against a tropical sunset backdrop, hyper realistic photography for advertising —ar 16:9.’ Here’s the outcome of that prompt by the way:

After Google and ChatGPT both released powerful image generators earlier this year, I was left scratching my head about what to do with Midjourney and cancelled it for a while.

ChatGPT really did seem to have trumped it when its new image generator came out in March, but Midjourney came back with version 7. It was a huge upgrade, and it also soon added video to make it one of the most powerful all round creative generative AI suites.

So with this in mind, we thought it fit and proper to create a tutorial about what is one of our favourite AI tools. Jump in through clicking the thumbnail below, and get prompting.
