2025 was the breakout year for AI video. We had Higgsfield, Hedra, Kling, Veo 3 and Sora 2, amongst others.
From roughly May, when Veo 3 was unleashed, we also reached a point where it was pretty hard to tell what was real or not, which is all a bit terrifying in many ways.
Perhaps it’s even more terrifying that a study has found that more than 20% of videos shown to new YouTube users are what’s become known as AI slop.
But I guess it’s a sign of the times. You’re looking at something on Instagram that looks pretty real and it turns out it’s not, but… unfortunately it’s hilarious.
Some might call this AI slop, and yeah I get it, but I wanted to run through the top AI virals of 2025 just to show where we’re up to.
I actually went through loads - more than 50, and have whittled it down to 34 - which gives us quite a mix of categories.
Now I used to work as a Head of Social Media for a national newspaper in the UK, so I’ve seen my fair share of virals and cat videos. I’ve given a bit of commentary around why I selected these clips.
It’s not all slop, and I think why these videos went viral is itself fascinating.
Happy New Year one and all.
🤣
