Gosh AI is fun isn’t it? One moment I’m working on agentic workflows that I hope will save companies a huge amount of time, the next I’m looking at LinkedIn pondering that another Big Tech firm have axed thousands of roles. The latest being Salesforce, who slashed 4,000 in the last week. It’s often terrifying.

The only way I found I could beat this gnawing anxiety of the coming wave was to get on the bandwagon. It’s gone quite well so far, but still something suggests to me that even AI consultants could be replaced very soon. If the writing’s on the wall, I just need to save enough for a plumbing course - although we might be in a rather deep economic mess by then.

My employment bipolar never ends. I thought it would be a good topic to make a video on. This is because the topic is indeed bipolar. It’s as I’ve explained - greater efficiency leads to fast and disruptive change. But it’s obviously a complicated one.

So Harry wrote a very in depth script of the quandary, and I presented it. Then producer extraordinaire Ben Lowe did the editing.

Some of the topics we explore in this video are:

  • The kinds of jobs that will be affected first.

  • What Universal Basic Income is and why it may become necessity.

  • Is not having a job all that bad?

  • What would life be like in a post work society?

Plumbing aside, I’m sure you’d like to know what I’d do if I didn’t have a job and I could still pay to live a little.

  • I’d spend more time with my family generally messing about.

  • I’d be healthier as I’d exercise more.

  • I’d try and get out in nature as much as possible.

  • For the rest of the time I might try and become an esports player, or make YouTube videos.

I haven’t decided yet. I might need to decide soon.
